Antibiotic resistance pattern in Shigella species isolated from children with acute diarrhea in Tabriz city, Iran

Background and aim: Shigella is one of the leading causes acute diarrhea in children worldwide. Antibiotic resistance this bacterium has increased due to indiscriminate use common antibiotics. Therefore, aim study was investigate prevalence pattern antibiotic species isolated from with Tabriz hospitals.
 Materials methods: In descriptive cross-sectional study, 321 samples suspected were collected children's stool identified using standard microbiological biochemical tests. also determined disk diffusion by Kirby-Bauer method.
 Results: A total 84 positive for Shigella. Among them, S. flexneri 83.3% had highest frequency boydii 13.1%, sonnei 2.4% dysanteriae 1.2% lowest frequency. The related antibiotics cotrimoxazole (92.85%), tetracycline ampicillin (67.86%) imipenem (2.38%) ceftizoxime (9.52%). 
 Conclusion: present showed that predominant Shigellosis hospitals city. Our results indicate an increase it recommended antimicrobial susceptibility testing be performed area prior administration.
